On November 6, 2012, Mayor Gregor Robertson delivered his annual address to the real estate industry as part of ULI BC’s speaker series The City in 2050: Creating Blueprints for Change. The Mayor offered an exclusive look at what was on the horizon fro City Hall as he outlined his vision for Vancouver. Affordable housing, rapid transit, economic development, and Vancouver’s place in the global economy were all discussed as part of the Mayor’s action plan for the city’s future. Moderated by Emmy award-winning journalist Chris Gailus, News Hour anchor for Global BC Television.

On July 11, 2012, Brent Toderian, Ray Spaxman and Larry Beasley shared their thoughts on the future of Vancouver. Moderated by Jay Wollenberg, the panel discussion highlighted what these urban planning experts thought about the development of Vancouver and where they thought emphasis should be placed in the future. Issues discussed ranged from housing affordability to the potential types of development that would be beneficial to the city in the future. This event was followed by ULI BC’s annual summer social.

On September 22, 2011, ULI British Columbia was pleased to present a luncheon featuring a highly entertaining and enlightening conversation between former Councillor, Mayor of Vancouver and Premier, Mike Harcourt, and former Councillor and Professor, Gordon Price. The conversation ranged from the history of success in city and regional planning in British Columbia and the Lower Mainland to current and future challenges cities face across Canada and internationally.

The City in 2050 Speaker Series, Part 7: A Mayor’s Perspective: Leading to 2050

On March 10, 2011, ULI British Columbia welcomed City of Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts and City of Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson for a candid discussion on regional issues and visionary leadership. The event was moderated by Emmy award-winning Chris Gailus, News Hours Anchor, Global BC. Mayor Watts shared her insight on how she has been able to position the fastest-growing city in BC as a leader in economic growth and investment, by forming partnerships with other levels of government and the private sector. Mayor Robertson discussed initiatives that the City of Vancouver has planned to address regional issues now and into the future, including “The Greenest City 2020”.

On November 25, 2010, ULI British Columbia welcomed Bjarke Ingels, world renowned architect and visionary from Copenhagen, to provide a unique international perspective. Bjarke has created an international reputation as a member of a new generation of architects that combine shrewd analysis, playful experimentation, social responsibility and humour. He is the recipient of the 2010 European Prize for Architecture and was rated as one of the 100 most creative people in business by Fast Company magazine.
